Frequently Asked Questions

1 - 5 of 6

Q1: Is this telescope made in China?

A: The optics are ground in China but the manufacturing i done at Meade in california.

Q2: Is this refractor well suited for terrestrial view or not? What would you suggest if I want something of good value for both uses, better than this LXD75 AR6-AT, but in the same price range ($999 - $1200)?

A: You can definitely use this for both purposes however (as with all telescopes) you will need an erecting prism for terrestrial use.

Q3: Can you ship to the UK and the cost Many thanks. L.Austin

A: i am sorry but our dealer agreement with Meade does not allow us to ship any of their products outside the US. However we can ship all other brands of optics you may want to look ath the Celestron advanced series with GO-to telescopes as they will be the most comparable to the LXD-75 series from Meade.

Q4: How great an issue is chromatic abberation? This has always scared me away from achromatic refractors but this is such a sweet deal that I am sorely tempted. Thanks!

A: While achromatic lenses bring two primary colors (red and blue) into focus at the same point, they leave some uncorrected chromatic aberration at wavelengths in between. This variation is negligible for most purposes, overall it will not make much of an impact regarding your views through the scope. Keep in mind that there are apochromatic eyepieces that you can get as well which will help correct it if you need to.

Q5: I worry about the gears in the mount being not durable enough to handle a socpe with some weight. Is this a durable mount, (gears made out of metal, not plastic)? Also in another question, you said that a correcting prism is all that needed for teresteral viewing with a non-reversed and non-inverted image? Thank you Paul Underland

A: The gears are metal, not plastic. It's a good mount. You'll need an erecting prism if you want to use land objects. Bear in mind, though, that the equatorial mount doesn't lend itself well to land viewing.

Super beginner's refractor!

Meade's LXD75 AR6-AT Refractor telescope with Autostar is a precision instrument that'll give great service over a long time. It's the perfect instrument for the beginning astronomer, and it'll serve an intermediate-level observer well, too.

At its heart are premium-grade Meade optics, including a 6-inch, BAK-7 objective lens that's multi-coated to maximize light transmission. A German equatorial mount with heavy-duty shaft and castings, as well precision worm gears on both axes, ensures precision tracking and slewing - essential for astrophotography.

High Performace Features

  • High-Precision Pointing (HPP) For ultra-precise pointing, the HPP function puts objects in the center of the field of view, allowing quick, easy location of deep-sky objects at the farthest limits of the telescope's capability.
  • Periodic error correction corrects periodic errors on the RA axis over the course of one or more training periods, minimizing guiding corrections during long-exposure photography.
  • Nine-speed drive controls - From a rapid slew rate of 4.5οΎ°/sec. to 1X sidereal, tracking and slewing are controlled from the AutoStar controller.
  • Three-star alignment ensures precise alignment and eliminates the need for a complicated optical/mechanical alignment process.
  • Variable-height field tripod with spreader bar brace provides stability and vibration-damping required for visual observation and astrophotography;
  • Illuminated polar alignment viewfinder offers quick, precise polar alignment,
  • Powered with eight D-size batteries or with optional car cigarette lighter or AC wall adapter.

    AutoStar Controller

The AutoStar controller helps you quickly find and GoTo more than 30,000 objects in the night sky. View planets, stars, galaxies, nebulae, and comets - all at the push of a button. AutoStar is pre-programmed with several guided tours, including the popular Tonight's Best. To take it, just input date, time and location. Then let AutoStar take you on a guided tour of the best objects that particular night. The AutoStar controller can be updated, too. Log on to Meade.com to download software upgrades, guided tours, and timely objects like comets - free. Keep your AutoStar up-to-date and your telescope will grow with you for years to come.
